BIOGRAPHY
Native New Mexican, Hispanic soprano Lucianna Astorga is an active performer, singing in cities including Austin, San Antonio, Philadelphia, and Albuquerque. Notable performances include Maguelonne in Cendrillon by Pauline Viardot and the titular role in La Malinche: Traitor | Savior (world premiere).
In the 2024-2025 season, Lucianna will perform in The Prodigal Son by composer Hugo Antonio Miranda and will be featured at Opera Austin Festival.
In 2023-2024 Lucianna performed in scenes from Le Nozze di Figaro and Die Entführung aus dem Serail. Summer 2024 brought several performances including the role of Donna Anna in Luke Housner’s production of Don Giovanni, a recital in Paris at the The Fondation des États-Unis at Cité internationale universitaire de Paris, and finally, another world premiere opera by Nathan Felix at the Cincinnati Art Museum.
In the 2022-2023 season, Lucianna performed in three world premiere operas by Mexican-American composer Nathan Felix including, Carol Tools in The Artificial Heart at The Speed Museum in Louisville, Kentucky, Evander in All is Apathetic in Love and War at the Fralin Museum of Art in Charlottesville, Virginia, and Blanca Ribas in Ribas-Dominicci at The Texas Public Radio Malú and Carlos Alvarez Theater in San Antonio, Texas. She also performed scenes from Sweeney Todd, Dido and Aneas, The Magic Flute, and Le Nozze di Figaro.
Passionate about art song as well, she performed the world premiere of a song set by Nathan Felix in 2023. She is the first place winner of the 2023 SHSU Art Song Competition and has been selected for masterclasses with pianist and composer Timothy Hoekman, baritone Evan Jones, soprano Amy Johnson, and world-renowned mezzo-soprano Sasha Cooke.
Lucianna Astorga obtained her Bachelor’s of Music (BM) in Vocal Performance at Sam Houston State University School of Music under the tutelage of Christopher Michel. She is currently pursuing her Master’s of Music (MM) in Vocal Performance at Temple University Boyer College of Music and Dance under the tutelage of Dr. Kathryn Leemhuis.
Outside of performing, Lucianna has enjoyed administrative work as the Digital Media Coordinator for Cincinnati Song Initiative and has enjoyed working with various organizations in different capacities. She held both the Treasurer and President position for SNATS at Sam Houston State University. She also served as the social media manager for the SHSU Voice Area and SNATS.
